Jake I think you are muted?

How do you go about building trust with the courts/government in terms of gaining secure access to their databases?
Nick Floersch (C4BTV)
50:05
Oy… that’s pretty dubious
Meilani Santillan
50:19
That’s a great point, Jacob! I also know Matthew Stubenberg, the creator of MDExpungement you mentioned if anyone needs it. Their state statute clarity + access to records sounds similar to OR.

IN case we don’t get to address this out loud - the data we have gotten we’ve gotten through partners that have been building relationships with the courts/government for a long time already.
Meilani Santillan
52:49
👆ditto Michelle - we build relationships with government, and often are in data sharing agreements.
Mike Brown (Code for Buffalo)
56:03
@Meilani do you have an example template of that type of data sharing agreement? I ask because for the CfA fellowship project with affordable water applications, Buffalo Water tried to ask National Fuel about whether we could do data sharing to automatically enroll HEAP applicants into the water program. National Fuel didn't want to share that data but perhaps Buffalo Water needed to clarify how exactly we would make it secure
Meilani Santillan
56:28
@mike - that
Meilani Santillan
57:05
’S a good question. Let me see if we have something generic and I’ll slack dm you.
Mike Brown (Code for Buffalo)
57:42
Thanks! We'll also hopefully use such a template for working with the local courts

Mike - Do not introduce yourself to the judiciary as “Hi I want access to your data - I’m a civic HACKER”
Jacob Durell
01:01:52
Yeah, they did not like hearing their data was a focus of a civic hacking day

Lol probably not the best first impression, but luckily we have good connections with UB Law and one of our core team members works with WNY Law Center
